About me
My name is Huw Richards holder of the callsign Gw4dwn and my Qth is Briton Ferry 3 miles
from the town of Neath in the South of Wales. The nearest city is Swansea located about 5
miles SW of the Qth.
I was first licensed in the year 1975 and was very active for many years after then moving to
Yellowknife NWT Canada for the best part of 1977.
Most of you would k now Yellowknife for the TV programme Ice road truckers, but in 1977 Yk
was much smaller but still had Ice roads where I drove from time to time, I operated with the
call GW4DWN/VE8 also GW4DWN/CY8 being a special call for the Queens jubilee that year.
The strongest station coming out of EUROPE was a GW station runing 6KW into a 4 yargi
resulting in pinning my s meter and the AGC taking time to recover even with the distance.
After returning some years after, yes then I met the Xyl and went Qrt for around 20 years
with running a business and also bringing up a young family.
I now returned to the hobby last year Sept 2010, and I have been enjoying my come back to
the hobby ever since.
If we have not worked on the bands I look forward to a Qso with you on CW or SSB and thanks
for viewing my website today.
Best wishes Huw Gw4dwn.
